Why connect Gmail?

Household details often arrive by email. With your permission, Talo can check a bounded set of recent Inbox messages and help surface useful information inside your account.

Connecting is optional. Talo continues to work without Gmail, and you decide which Google account to use.

The permission Google shows

Google will ask you to approve:

“View your email messages and settings”This is Google’s wording for the restricted gmail.readonly scope.

Talo uses that access to read recent Inbox messages for the connected features you request. Talo cannot send, edit or delete your Gmail messages. It does not use connected Google data for advertising, sell it or use it to train general-purpose AI models.

How to connect

Open Talo on your Android phone

Sign in, then open Profile.

Open Email accounts

Choose Add email account, then Gmail.

Continue to Google

Select the Google account you want Talo to check.

Review the permission

Read Google’s consent screen. Choose Allow only if you agree.

Return to Talo

The Email accounts screen will show the connection and its current status.

If Google says the app is in testing, the connection is not yet open to all users. Contact support only if you are an approved tester.

How long raw email is kept

You can choose a raw-message retention window of 6, 24 or 72 hours. The default is 24 hours. Raw content expires after that window. Useful details you choose to keep in Talo can remain until you delete them.

Credentials are encrypted on the server. See the Privacy Notice for the full explanation.

Pause checking or disconnect

Pause checking

In Talo, open Profile → Email accounts → your Gmail account, then choose Pause checking. The connection remains listed but Talo stops new checks until you resume.

Disconnect Gmail

On the same screen, choose Disconnect Gmail and confirm. Talo stops checks and removes its encrypted local credentials and sync cursors.

To fully revoke the Google permission too, go to Google Account → Third-party connections, open Talo and choose to remove access.

Common questions

Can Talo send an email as me?

No. The Gmail permission is read-only.

Does Talo read every message forever?

No. It checks a bounded recent Inbox window for the features you request, and raw content follows your 6, 24 or 72-hour setting.

Can I use another Gmail account?

Yes. Disconnect the current account in Talo, then connect the Google account you prefer.

Connection failed?

Return to Profile → Email accounts and try again. If it still fails, email support@ask-talo.com with the time of the attempt. Do not send us email content or passwords.
